Almost 4,500 years
ago in ancient Egypt has been depicted they mythology of eclipse. And what is
Eclipse then? It is the complete or partial obscuring of
a celestial body by another other. Actually
there are 2 typical types of eclipses, the Lunar and Solar.
Eclipse has been link to mighty histories of the Ancient Chinese, Ancient Greeks, Ancient Egypt, the Europe and With the Modern Times as well (These days, astronomers use total solar eclipses to photograph and study the composition of the sun's corona.)
The word eclipse is
of Greek origin meaning "abandonment".
The ancient Greek astronomers had also great knowledge of
eclipses.
A fragment of a lost poem by
Archilochus (ca. 680–645 BCE), who was a Greek poet and soldier, seems to
clearly depict a total solar eclipse:
Nothing there is beyond hope,
nothing that can be sworn
impossible,
nothing wonderful, since Zeus,
father of the Olympians,
made night from mid-day,
hiding the light of the shining Sun,
and sore fear came upon men.
